London College of Music
1st piece: Scarlatti - Sonata Kp.198
This sonata has a bold and confident character. The semiquaver work needs to be well articulated, and it is useful to bear in mind the crispness of attack which is available on the harpsichord. However, unlike the harpsichord, the piano has so much scope in terms of dynamic color and it is this aspect which gives the performace a sense of individuality as a piano piece - shaping the phraces, contrasting the sections and allowing absolute clarity of texture through the careful balancing of hands.
Well, boo to harpsichord ! It makes my life so tough just to imitate the crispness of attack. And the semiquaver ? Gosh, kill me now please. The tempo is set at 100 crochets per min. I suck at this piece. Boooo. It is enough to kill me. And horrors ! It is the first piece ! I would not be surprised if the examiner shakes her head at me after this. God save my soul.
2nd piece: Haydn - Sonata, Hob.X VI/45 ( 1st movement )
The description is too long for me to think out and write. So anyhoos, I love this piece ! :D My favourite out of the 3. Hahaha. The Alberti Bass which prevails throughout the development section makes my life easy cos your fingers just move in similar pattern throughout. I wish you could hear this song but I can't find it online just yet. Wait till I find it !
3rd piece: Christopher Norton - Rock Preludes Bk. 2 Prelude 1.
The name itself is suggestive no ? It's rock with a jazzy feel. It's loud, thumpingly loud. I play it at a softer tone at home but my dad reckons it's too loud. My dear daddy, it is set at fortesimmo ! In the music dictionary, that is very loud. Hahaha. But it is jaunty and you feel like grooving to it. Yeah baby.
Well, that is my repertoire for my exam at the end of July and that is what I am currently doing this past month. Wish me all the best people ! And God save my soul. Hahaha. :b
